About Mary Niederlehner

An alumna of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, Mary Niederlehner has worked as a researcher, traveled the globe, and helped others through her volunteer work. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, graduating with a 3.7 GPA and magna cum laude distinction. Along the way, Mary Niederlehner achieved dean’s list status and also served as Treasurer of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. In addition, she worked as an Assistant Researcher at VCU in the biopsychology department, both as a student and after she graduated. Niederlehner performed data entry, interpreted test results, and conducted general lab activities during her time in that research position.

An active member of the community, Mary Niederlehner has contributed to several charitable and volunteer efforts in the course of her life. She coordinated a neighborhood garden at an elementary school called the Carver Greenhouse Project. Niederlehner also helped the American Red Cross collect blood during a donor drive in the Appalachian Mountains. She used her five years of language study to help tutor fellow students in Spanish.

At the same time she pursued her academic career, Mary Niederlehner took employment in a wide variety of businesses. She worked as a Sales Associate at Springwood Salon and as a server at the Back Creek Grill, both in Roanoke, Virginia. She also interned at the Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, South Carolina. Niederlehner aided in the day camp for kids and assisted with organizing the Wild Dunes Fourth of July Festival. She also worked as an Assistant Property Manager and as an au pair for a busy family of four. Niederlehner has traveled to 14 countries around the world. She enjoys cooking, exercise, and playing the piano.
